Report: Steelers running back Williams facing suspension
INDIANAPOLIS – When the Steelers signed Karlos Williams to their practice squad earlier this season, the second-year player was coming off a four-game suspension for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
It raised some eyebrows given that the Steelers have had some high-profile players – running back Le’Veon Bell and receiver Martavis Bryant – suspended in recent seasons.
But the Steelers felt reuniting Williams with his brother, Vince, a reserve linebacker already on the team, could help set the running back on the right path.
They were wrong.
According to multiple reports, Karlos Williams has tested positive for an illegal substance and is facing a 10-game ban from the NFL for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
It’s likely the Steelers at some point will release Williams, who had 517 yards on just 93 rushing attempts as a rookie last season in Buffalo.
The Steelers (5-5) play at Indianapolis on Thursday. As a practice squad player, Williams did not make the trip.
