A Canonsburg man was charged by South Strabane Township police after he allegedly overdosed on heroin just before crashing his vehicle in the 300 block of Washington Road (Route 19) Thursday morning.

Mark A. Stevens Jr., 35, of 327 Euclid Ave., was charged with possession of heroin and paraphernalia, reckless endangerment and reckless driving stemming from the 6:45 a.m. crash.

Police said he was driving north on Route 19 when his vehicle crossed over the median into the southbound lane and crashed. Stevens reportedly was slumped over the steering wheel, and the engine of the vehicle was running when officers arrived. Police said he refused treatment. They said they found him with 11 stamp bags of suspected heroin, a needle and three empty stamp bags.

Charges were filed Friday and will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
