Six-year-old Henry Manciu, son of Sara Botkin and Ovi Manciu of Canonsburg, will make his pianistic debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City at 7:30 p.m. April 14 as a result of winning first prize in the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition Fall 2016.

The competition was open to young instrumentalists from all over the world, with the winners featured in recital at Carnegie Hall.

Henry began his piano studies at the age of 3. He won prizes in the Pittsburgh Piano Teachers Association Performance Competition in 2015 and 2016 and received superior ratings in the National Guild of Piano Teachers event those same years.

In 2016, he became a Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania Young Artist and has been selected to perform in recital in the lobby of Heinz Hall Feb. 26 before the Pittsburgh Symphony’s 2:30 p.m. concert.

Henry is a first-grader at Borland Manor Elementary School, where he is enrolled in the SCOPE gifted program. His piano teacher is Phyllis Kiser of McMurray.
