Police in Cecil and Chartiers townships received reports over the weekend of items stolen from unlocked vehicles in different neighborhoods.

Cecil police said thefts were reported from three vehicles parked in the Lawrence area. Police said a gun was stolen from one vehicle, a ring from a second and change from a third.

Rahim Jamel Thomas, 22, of Homestead, was taken into custody early Friday by Cecil police on a charge of loitering and prowling at night after he was found near a home in Georgetown Estates in the Lawrence area. Police said he gave conflicting stories as to why he was there, including jogging and meeting a girl, but he was not able to provide the officer with a name of the girl he was visiting. Police said he admitted to being dropped off. Since the charge is a misdemeanor, he was not eligible for immediate arraignment and was released.

Police in Chartiers received reports of vehicles entered in the Meadow Lands and Allison areas. A vehicle on Liekar Lane was entered, but nothing was stolen. Cash was stolen from two vehicles, one on Hart Street and the other on Lyons Street.

Footprints were found early Monday in the snow near a vehicle on First Street. Chartiers police also received a report a man wearing a black coat over a hooded shirt with the hood pulled up was seen in the area of Walnut Street. Footprints were found in that area.

Police urge residents who have information on the thefts or see suspicious activity to call 911. They also remind residents to keep vehicles locked.
