Division III baseball regional returning to Washington
Washington & Jefferson College and Ross Memorial Park will again serve as the host site for the NCAA Division III Baseball Mideast Regional in 2017 it was announced by the national office and Championships committee.
The regional will be held May 18-22 and will feature either six or eight teams. The regional champion will represent the Mideast Region at the NCAA Division III Baseball May 26-31 in Appleton, Wis.
Ross Memorial Park first served as the host site for the regional event in 2015 and again in 2016.
“We are thrilled to again serve as the host for the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional at Ross Memorial Park,” said W&J athletic director Scott McGuinness. “I am very proud of the efforts of our staff and student workers who have run successful tournaments in each of the past two years. We have also been lucky to receive the expert assistance of professionals from Western Pennsylvania colleges who have helped make this regional a first-rate championship experience for the student-athletes, coaches and spectators.”
Completed in 2004, Ross Memorial Park joins with Alexandre Stadium to form a 233,000-square foot continuous turf playing surface. Recent renovations replaced the infield turf and base cutouts with artificial turf, leaving just the pitchers’ mound and home plate area as dirt, helping to minimize weather delays. In the winter of 2015-16, the press box was renovated to more than double its previous capacity. Wireless internet access was also installed.
