Assault charges: Daniel Wayne Ealy Jr., 31, of 291 E. High St., Waynesburg, was charged by state police with simple assault, harassment and terroristic threats after he allegedly threatened the life of his girlfriend and her unborn child, punched the woman in the face and stomach and hit her in the arm with a baseball bat at midnight Tuesday at 158 Wayne Village. Police said the woman’s face and arm were swollen and bruised. Ealy was arraigned before District Judge Lee Watson and jailed on $25,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is Feb. 7.

Theft charge: Richard Alan Riley, 26, of 237 Washington St., Jefferson, was charged by state police with theft for allegedly stealing $4,237 in property Aug. 28 from the home of Craig Bessinger of 127 Third St., Jefferson. Police said Riley told them the day following the alleged theft that he had gone to Bassinger’s house, found the door unlocked and entered. According to police, he said he took the items he felt were worth the most money home with him for safekeeping but had not notified the property owner of his actions.
