Allen’s buzzer-beater gives C-M win over USC

Izzy Allen’s putback at the buzzer gave Canon-McMillan its first lead of the second half and a Section 3 Class 6-A victory over Upper St. Clair, 43-42, Monday night in a high school girls basketball game.

Canon-McMillan (3-3, 7-8) inbounded the ball at the other end of the court with 5.2 seconds remaining, but Cheyenne Trest, who scored 11 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, missed a desperation shot, only to have it land in the hands of Allen, who scored 11 points.

The game was tied at 16 at the half before USC (0-6, 1-14) went on a 15-7 run in the third quarter to grab the lead.

Kate Goninger led USC with 11 points.

Charleroi 61, Brownsville 48: Kaitlyn Riley had 18 points to lead Charleroi to a 61-48 win over Section 2-AAA rival Brownsville.

Maria Claybaugh chipped in with 17 points, and Sierra Short added 10 for the Cougars (6-1, 12-3).

Allie Seto scored 20 points and Lyric Mosley added 11 for Brownsville (3-5, 6-11).

Chartiers-Houston 67, Washington 29: Alexa Williamson scored 27 points as Chartiers-Houston stayed unbeaten and clinched a playoff spot in Section 1-AA with a 67-29 win over Washington.

Jules Vulcano added 17 points, while Keaira Walker had 10 for the Bucs (9-0, 15-2).

Carly Allen led Washington (4-5, 8-8) with eight points.

Avella 50, Monessen 18: Kodi Georgetti’s 16 points led Avella to a 50-18 Section 2-A win over Monessen.

Kenzie Keefer added 12 points for Avella (3-3, 7-9), which led 28-6 at the half.

Marquela Green’s eight points led the Greyhounds (0-6, 0-18).

West Greene 61, Jefferson-Morgan 18: Madison Lampe had 22 points, including a career-high six three-pointers, and West Greene went on a 29-5 run in the second quarter en route to a 61-18 Section 2-A win over Jefferson-Morgan.

Kaitlyn Rizor and McKenna Lampe had 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Pioneers (5-0, 13-3).

Jeff-Morgan falls to 3-3, 7-10.

Southmoreland 68, Belle Vernon 55: Olivia Porter’s 31 points helped Southmoreland get off to a 23-5 start en route to a 68-55 win over Belle Vernon in a Section 3-AAAA game.

Carissa Cyphert chipped in 12 points for Southmoreland (3-6, 10-6).

Ashley Russell had 14 points and Kelsey Green 12 for Belle Vernon (4-4, 8-7).

Fort Cherry 57, New Brighton 35: Mackenzie Faure had 19 points and 13 rebounds as Fort Cherry topped New Brighton, 57-35, in a Section 1-AA game.

Shannon Relihan also had 13 rebounds, while she and Karis Zasarus had 12 points each for the Rangers (4-5, 8-7).

Sydney Cook scored 16 points for New Brighton (1-8, 2-14).

California 39, Jeannette 24: Jenna Miller’s 16 points helped California stop Jeannette, 39-24, in a Section 3-AA game.

The Trojans (8-1, 16-1) held Jeannette to three points in the first half.

Olivia Sirnic scored 15 points for Jeannette (3-6, 5-10).

Mapletown 37, Geibel 34: Kayla Smith had a double-double to lead Mapletown to a 37-34 victory in a Section 2-A game.

Smith had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Maples (2-3, 5-9), who led throughout the fourth quarter. Abby Antill chipped in with 11 points.

Grace Nowicki scored 13 points and Gillian Yourish added 11 for the Gators (4-2, 7-7).

South Allegheny 37, McGuffey 22: South Allegheny evened its Section 2-AAA with a 37-22 win over McGuffey.

Alyssa Kennedy and Katelyn Wyler each scored nine points for SA. Mikayla Maxwell added 10 for the Highlanders (1-6, 2-13).

Trinity 71, Albert Gallatin 9: All five starters reached double figures as Trinity routed Albert Gallatin, 71-9, in a Section 3 game in Class S-A.

Sierra Kotchman tossed in 21 points for the Hillers (8-0), 15-1). Alayna Cappelli scored 13, Riley DeRubbo 11, Abbey O’Connor 10 and Rachel Lemons 10.

AG fell to 3-10, 0-8 in the section.

Beth-Center 40, Carmichaels 27: Beth-Center broke the game open with a strong second half to grab a 40-27 victory over Carmichaels in a Section 3-AA game.

Olivia Greco had 15 points and six rebounds and Kinlee Whited 14 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs (8-6, 5-4), who outscored Carmichaels, 21-11, over the final 16 minutes.

Kaitlyn Wilson led the Mikes (2-7, 6-11) with 10 points.

Peters Township 52, Bethel Park 43: Makenna Marisa scored 24 points to propel Peters Township to a 52-43 victory over Bethel Park in a Section 3 game in Class 6-A.

Lillian Young added 12 points for the Indians (6-1, 11-4), who have won eight of nine games.

Maria Cerro scored 16 points and Madelyn Dziezgowski chipped in with 11 for the Black Hawks, who trailed 24-16 at halftime.

In other games: South Fayette defeated Moon, 63-30, in a Section 1 game in Class 5-A; and Ringgold downed Connellsville, 44-28, in Section 3 of Class 5-A

Boys results

Chartiers-Houston 84, Jefferson-Morgan 53: Spencer Terling scored a career-best 20 points to lead Chartiers-Houston past Jefferson-Morgan, 84-53, in a Section 2-AA game.

Terling also had seven rebounds for the Bucs (6-0, 11-3), who led 23-5 after one quarter. A.J. Myers added 23 points and Cam Hanley 16.

Gage Clarke paced the Rockets (1-5, 3-10) with 21 points and Jalen Torres added 13.
