Vehicles broken into at Mon Valley YMCA
Carroll Township police are looking for the occupants of a silver or green, late model Volvo XC-90 and a white, late model Hyundai Santa Fe Sport who reportedly broke into three vehicles parked at the Mon Valley YMCA on Taylor Run Road early Sunday afternoon.
Chief Paul Brand said that the occupants of one of the vehicles acted as lookout while the other vehicle would pull next to the victim’s vehicle. The thief used a device that quickly broke the window to gain access to the vehicle. Purses, credit cards and cash were then stolen. Brand said that the credit cards were used at businesses in Richeyville and Rostraver Township.
Brand said there were several occupants in the vehicles, including at least one woman. He said they were on the property for about 10 minutes.
“As people went into the YMCA, they would then wait until the area was clear,” Brand said. “This is not a crime you see often. Usually the thefts are from unlocked vehicles. We don’t get many that are broken into, especially in broad daylight.”
“We want to remind people to keep any valuables they have in their vehicle, locked up inside the trunk,” he added.
Brand said police are reviewing video surveillance. Anyone with information on the thefts or who might have seen the suspect vehicles is asked to call police at 724-483-5556.
