Butler Co. teenager charged with robbing Washington delivery driver
A Butler teenager was arrested Sunday night by Washington police after he and three accomplices allegedly robbed a delivery driver for a Chinese restaurant at gunpoint in the West End.
Ethan Jaylee Hicks, 18, also faces drug charges. Police said he was found with six stamp bags of suspected heroin when he was apprehended.
Police were called just before 9:15 p.m. to the 800 block of Ewing Street when the driver for How Lee Restaurant reported the robbery. The driver told police that he pulled onto the street and had made a delivery at one of the homes.
The driver told police that as he approached the residence, four men started harassing him and yelling at him to give them food. After the driver made the delivery, the four men were standing outside his car. One of the four put a handgun to his head and told him to turn over his money. The driver said he grabbed the gun and struggled with the robber, and one of the four grabbed a receipt from the driver. They did not get any cash, police said.
The four robbers reportedly ran to the 700 block of Ewing before running between houses. Police searched the area and spotted two men, one identified as Hicks, a block away in the 700 block of Broad Street, about 10 minutes after getting the robbery call. Hicks was taken into custody and identified by the driver as one of the four robbers.
Hicks reportedly told police the gun that was used was fake. He also allegedly admitted that he planned to sell the six bags of heroin.
Hicks was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges of robbery, conspiracy and possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin. He was placed in Washington County jail on $75,000 bond. He is scheduled for a Jan. 16 preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Police are looking for the other three suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-223-4226.
