Charleroi’s offense clicks, routs Frazier
Caleb Carson, Sam Miceli and Dremar Everette combined for 68 points Wednesday night and hot-shooting Charleroi blew out visiting Frazier 98-48 in a nonsection game.
The win pushed Charleroi (7-6) back above the .500 mark. The Cougars dominated throughout, leading 25-10 after one quarter and 58-32 at halftime. The 98 points was a season high for Charleroi and the Cougars accomplished it despite playing more than 10 minutes under the Mercy Rule.
Carson scored a career-high 24 points, which was matched by Miceli. Everette finished with 20 points and Errict Tedrow gave Charleroi four players in double figures as all of his 12 points came from behind the three-point line. The Cougars made 12 three-pointers.
Justin Novak had 14 points and Brad Poling 11 for Frazier (3-9).
Cornell 55, Fort Cherry 48: Fort Cherry’s eight-game winning streak came unraveled as the Rangers lost at Cornell 55-48 in a nonsection game.
Zaire Harrison and Hayden Devito each scored 17 points for Cornell (10-3). Nadhama Luster contributed 15 points as the Raiders did a good job on the boards against the taller Rangers.
Fort Cherry (10-3) was led by Ryhan Culberson’s 19 points. Devon Brown followed with 13 points.
Avella 65, Jefferson-Morgan 46: Three players had double-doubles and Avella overcame a slow start to defeat Jefferson-Morgan 65-46 in a nonsection game.
Shawn Willard had a team-high 21 points and 10 rebounds, Kevin Painter scored 14 points and had 11 assists, and Garrett Geresti finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds for Avella.
Jalen Torres scored a game-high 26 points for Jefferson-Morgan.
West Greene 71, Hundred (W.Va.) 41: Craig Weaver led four West Greene players in double figures as the Pioneers defeated Hundred (W.Va.) 71-41 on the Hornet’s home court. It was the eighth straight win over Hundred for West Greene.
Kolton Rush, Eric Stoll and Nathan Brudnock each contributed 11 points to the Pioneers’ balanced scoring attack. Weaver led West Greene (6-4) on the boards with 12 rebounds.
Hundred is 2-6.
Girls results
Charleroi 48, Steel Valley 41: Maria Claybaugh scored 19 points Charleroi was a 48-41 winner at Steel Valley in a nonsection game.
Charleroi led 34-32 after three quarters and won by outscoring the Ironmen 48-41 over the final eight minutes.
Sierra Short scored 10 points for Charleroi.
