Runaway juvenile: Nieca Lenae Merritt, 16, is suspected to have run away from her 29 Lavonne Avenue home sometime Friday night or early Saturday morning. Police described her as a black teenager about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, about 130 pounds with black braided hair and brown eyes. Anyone who has seen her or made contact with her can call the state police Belle Vernon station at 724-929-6262.

Theft: An unknown actor stole tools from two locked tool boxes sometime between Jan. 8 and 22 at a residence in the 1300 block of Deerfield Road.

Criminal mischief: Between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, an unknown actor broke an 83-year-old’s mailboxes and threw them in an open field 200 yards away from the residence in the 1600 block of Deerfield Road.

Simple assault charge: Blas Iribarren, 25, of 5363 Bilberry Lane, Westerville, Ohio, was charged by South Strabane Township police with simple assault, resisting arrest, harassment and disorderly conduct after he allegedly fought with a woman over the custody of their 5-month-old child just before noon Sunday in the Walmart parking lot. Police said Iribarren allegedly stopped the woman from leaving the parking lot with the child, entered the back seat and removed the child. Witnesses told police Iribarren allegedly shoved the woman multiple times while holding the infant. Police said as they were trying to arrest Iribarren, he allegedly refused to give the child to anyone, including police. Eventually, police said, Iribarren gave the baby to his younger brother. Iribarren is being held at Washington County jail on $5,000 bail.
