PT sweeps final 5 to beat Bethel Park
After falling behind early, Peters Township rallied to win the final five bouts as it defeated Bethel Park 36-30 Wednesday night in a Class AAA Section 2-B match.
Accompanying the three decisions by forfeit to spark the comeback for Peters Township was a pin from Will Kail (113) and a 5-2 decision favoring Jordan Marosz (126).
McGuffey 52, Bentworth 25: After falling behind in the first bout, McGuffey rallied in three consecutive bouts as Jake Garrety (120) won by major decision over Bryce Hook, 14-3, and pins from Jett Pattison (126) and Teague Nicolella (132) sparked the Highlands to a 52-25 victory over Bentworth.
Seth Burgdolt (106), Bryton Johnson (160), Christian Clutter (170) and Ed Shingle (heavyweight) also earned pins for McGuffey.
Bentworth was led by a major decision by Ryan Wise, 12-4, over Marshall Mounts.
Beth-Center 48, Jefferson-Morgan 22: Despite Jefferson-Morgan winning a streak of consecutive matches, which began with a Gavin Teasdale (126) pin over Travis French, Beth-Center won the final five bouts to earn 48-22 victory over the Rockets.
Extending a J-M lead in the middle of the match was an 11-2 major decision from Josh Agnew (132) over Dillon Swarrow.
B-C earned pins from Richard Larosa (106), Jimmy Gwyer (120), Jacob Baker (170) and Dylan Dingle (220).
Chartiers-Houston 72, Avella 5: Thunder Minney (113) got Chartiers-Houston off to a fast start by pinning Sam Kelvington in the first of the three-bout contest as the Bucs defeated Avella 72-5.
Winning 10 matches by forfeit, Chartiers-Houston’s Trey Lober (HVY) finished the night in successful fashion by pinning Randall Kidwell at 2:53.
Avella picked up its lone victory of the night when Dalton Simonelli (160) won by technical fall over Alex Waugh 17-1.
South Fayette 63, South Allegheny 15: After racing out to a fast start with pins from Eli Brensky (126) and Cort Blatz (132) in the first two bouts, South Fayette defeated South Allegheny 63-15. The Lions pulled away after Michael Dedi (152) pinned Tyler Belmont at 1:32, while Jake Walker (220) won an overtime decision, 6-4.
South Park 30, Washington 22: South Park won the final two eight classes, one on a pin by defending section champion Dallas Bulsak (145) and the other via forfeit to edge Washington 30-22 in a Class AA Section 1-A mach. Only five bouts were contested including three that ended in first-period falls.
Burgettstown 48, Fort Cherry 24: Controlling from the outset of the match with pins from Billy Brown (113) and Austin Ryan (120), Burgettstown defeated rival Fort Cherry, 48-24, in a Class AA Section 1-A match.
Those two bouts were followed by a 4-2 decision in favor of Burgettstown’s TJ Smith over Mason Sweetie.
Fort Cherry was led by three pins from Layton Sturgeon (145) over Dan Mullins, Matt Cook (170) over Cyle Conley and Shane Smith (195) over Jacob Paich.
Mapletown 46, West Greene 6: Mapletown combined three falls with four forfeits and defeated West Greene 46-6 in a Class AA Section 2-A bout in Rogersville.
Only five bouts were contested with Mapletown winning four. Brian Brady (132), Seth Shubert (152) and Brandon Smotzer (160) each had a first-period fall for the Maples with Shubert’s being the fastest, in only 58 seconds.
West Greene’s only points came when heavyweight Brock Bedillion pinned his opponent in the second period.
Trinity 38, Mt. Lebanon 22: Hunter Hickle (106), Michael Hertig (138) and Cole Whitmer (145) each won by fall and helped Trinity to a hard-fought 45-22 victory over host Mt. Lebanon in a Class AAA Section 4-A match. The Hillers also won two bouts by major decision.
