Charleroi to get federal funding for sewer improvements
Charleroi will receive nearly $1 million in federal money to help pay for a storm sewer separation project that should correct problems that have been causing sinkholes along Route 88 in the downtown, a borough councilman said.
Councilman Larry Celaschi said the borough received notice Wednesday that the $975,000 approved for Charleroi by the state Department of Transportation will be used to pay for storm sewer interceptors under McKean Street and Fallowfield avenues that divert runoff water away from the sewage treatment plant. The money also will fund a storm sewer study.
The funds were among 51 projects totalling $33 million that qualified for the federal money across Pennsylvania and were announced Tuesday by Gov. Tom Wolf.
