South Strabane Township police obtained an arrest warrant for a West Virginia woman who is accused of not only robbing two banks in Trinity Point just before Christmas but also two banks in West Virginia and two more in Ohio.Christine Joy Martin, 30, of Davisville, has been in North Central Regional jail in Greenwood, W.Va., on $150,000 bond since being taken into custody Dec. 30 for allegedly robbing a bank in Morgantown, W.Va.

South Strabane police Detective Ken Torboli charged Martin with two counts of robbery and two counts of robbing a financial institution for allegedly robbing the First Commonwealth and Wesbanco branches Dec. 23.

On the campus of Trinity Area High School, students soon will be growing vegetables in a repurposed shipping container.

The school district received a Local Share Account grant from slots revenue to purchase a Leafy Green Machine, a high-tech hydroponic farm built inside a shipping container, making it just the sixth public school system in the United States to undertake the project.

The school district will use the transformed shipping container to grow produce for the school campus and the community in a joint venture with the Greater Washington County Food Bank.

Like many other young football players in the Pittsburgh area, one of Mike Hull’s goals was to play a game at Heinz Field.He can check that one off his bucket list, even though the result wasn’t one he wanted.

The former Canon-McMillan standout made his NFL postseason debut Sunday and checked off playing a game at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh’s 30-12 AFC Wild Card playoff victory over Miami.

One-room schoolhouses from yesteryear are disappearing from the local landscape but a few are being preserved to keep a slice of history alive. In East Finley Township and Canton Township in Washington County, Rogersville in Greene County and Rostraver Township in the Mon Valley, efforts are taking place to renovate these buildings.
