Girls basketball: Peters Township extends winning streak

Peters Township remained tied for the Class 6-A Section 3 lead with a hard-fought 51-44 victory at Baldwin Thursday night.

The Indians (2-0, 7-3) ran their winning streak to four games by protecting a small lead for much of the night. PT led 14-11 after one quarter and 25-22 at halftime. The Indians pushed the gap to 38-32 after three quarters.

Makenna Marisa led the PT offense by scoring 17 points. Lillian Young followed with 13 points.

Baldwin (0-2, 5-4) received a game-high 22 points from Lauren Gilbert and 10 from Abbey Larkin.

Mt. Lebanon 50, Canon-McMillan 41: Mckenzie Bushee scored 19 points and Mt. Lebanon remained undefeated in Class 6-A Section 3 with a 50-41 victory over visiting Canon-McMillan.

The game was tied 25-25 at halftime but Mt. Lebanon (2-0, 8-2) held Canon-McMillan to only two points in the third quarter to forge a seven-point advantage.

Kate Sramac scored 12 points and Alyssa Hyland had 11 for the Blue Devils, who made 18 of 21 free throws.

Canon-McMillan’s Cheyenne Trest scored a game-high 21 points to keep the Big Macs (1-1, 5-5) within striking distance.

Chartiers-Houston 62, Aliquippa 20: Alexa Williamson scored 29 points and Chartiers-Houston remained undefeated in Section 1-AA with a 62-20 thumping of visiting Aliquippa.

Chartiers-Houston moved to 5-0 in the section and 8-2 overall. The Bucs were in command from the start, leading 17-5 after one quarter and 40-9 at halftime. C-H scored only two points in the fourth quarter as the Bucs cleared the bench.

Jala Walker was the only other player to hit double figures for C-H as she tossed in 10 points.

Aliquippa is 1-3 in section, 2-8 overall.

OLSH 39, Washington 27: A rough second quarter proved costly to Washington as the Prexies lost a Section 1-AA game at Our Lady of Scared Heart, 39-27.

Washington (2-2, 4-5) held an 8-7 lead after one quarter but was outscored 13-4 in the second quarter. The Prexies pulled to within 24-19 after three quarters but the Chargers held off the comeback.

Ashley Norling led OLSH with 14 points and Jocelyn Nagy followed with 11.

Washington had only one player score in double figures as Carly Allen tossed in 10 points.

South Side Beaver 50, McGuffey 43: The long-range shooting of Lexi Chicarrello and Jess Barber helped South Side Beaver hold off visiting McGuffey 50-43 in Section 2-AAA.

Barber scored a game-high 19 points and made three of SSB’s eight three-point field goals. Chicarrello followed with 17 points, including five three-pointers.

The game was close throughout as SSB (1-2, 5-4) led 24-21 at halftime and 36-34 after three quarters.

McGuffey (0-3, 0-9) received 14 points from both Emily Durila and Mikayla Maxwell.
