Police beat Jan. 26
Attempted burglary: A resident of 179 Post Road reported to state police that an attempt was made to steal a van parked in a detached garage Sunday. Found inside the vehicle were a Lenovo laptop and a rheostat box, which was stolen from a different home.
Two injured: Tara Smith, 28, of Blaine Avenue, Canonsburg, and her passenger, Jennifer Lohr, 31, of Belmont Avenue, Canonsburg, were injured in a three-vehicle crash about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of West Pike Street and North Jefferson Avenue, Canonsburg police said. Both women were taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment. The other drivers are identified as Justin Pappa, 38, of Frederick Court, Canonsburg, and Alice Burger, 52, of Hallam Avenue, Meadow Lands.
Gun stolen: Thomas DeJohn, 703 Franklin Ave., told Canonsburg police Tuesday a .38-caliber Taurus revolver was stolen from his home.
Man assaulted: State police are investigating the assault of a man who was found unresponsive in a field between 1065 and 1069 Addison St. at 11:40 a.m. Monday. The man, who police did not identify, was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment.
Animal cruelty charge: State police reported a man, 20, shot and killed a cat with a pellet gun at 353 Beacon Ave. around 3:15 p.m. Friday. The cat was owned by a 62-year-old woman, police said.
Vehicle thefts: Items were stolen from seven vehicles parked on Beverly Drive and Diane Drive between midnight and 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, state police reported. They are asking anyone with information to call 724-223-5200.
Charged in theft: Deanna Lewis, 34, of 340 Franklin Drive, Monessen, was charged Tuesday morning by Charleroi Regional police with felony retail theft after she stole laundry pods from the Dollar General Store in Charleroi. Lewis was taken into custody and it was discovered that she had multiple prior arrest on retail theft charges, police said. Lewis was arraigned by District Judge Larry Hopkins and placed in Washington County jail on $35,000 bond.
Assault alleged: Deshante Stitch, 25, of 510 Washington Ave. Charleroi, will be charged by Charleroi Regional police with simple assault and harassment. He is accused of hitting a woman in the face during a confrontation at their home Tuesday night. Stitch fled before police arrived and will be charged by summons from the office of District Judge Larry Hopkins.
Man jailed: Justin Richmond, 35, of 42 Wotring Road, was placed in Washington County jail on a probation detainer after state police said they were twice called to his home within two hours Monday when he was arguing with a woman and ripped a door from its hinges and broke it in two. Kelly Ciaffoni, 33, was found hiding in a bedroom with her four children. Clarence Richmond, 74, of Washington, told police Justin Richmond took his vehicle without permission. Police plan to charge Richmond with stalking, harassment and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Threats alleged: Michael Dale Byrne, 41, of 179 Booth Road, Washington, was arrested Tuesday night by North Franklin police on two counts of terroristic threats and one count of disorderly conduct. He is accused of threatening another patron at Forty Bar & Grille, 3390 W. Chestnut St., saying he was going to get a gun and shoot him after the two reportedly exchanged words. Byrne was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis and released from Washington County jail after posting $5,000 bond.
Boyfriend charged: Jason Wade Flenniken, 34, of Sevierville, Tenn., was arrested early Wednesday by North Strabane police after he allegedly assaulted his 28-year-old girlfriend in their room at Cambria Suites, 457 Racetrack Road. The Tennessee woman told police he also struck her while the two were in an elevator. She was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment. Flenniken was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Husband arrested: Bryan P. Stoothoff, 23, of 1920 Smith Township Road, Slovan, was arrested Tuesday by Smith police on charges of simple assault and harassment after he allegedly choked his wife during a confrontation at their home. He was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis and released on $5,000 unsecured bond.
Charge filed: Washington police Wednesday charged Kelsha Barnes, 27, of South Union Township, by summons Wednesday with simple assault for an alleged incident that occurred late Oct. 24 or early Oct. 25 at the Fifty Yard Line Sports Pub, 1400 Jefferson Ave. A woman told police Barnes allegedly pulled her off a bar stool and then kicked her multiple times.
Simple assault charge: Jalea Ward, 23, of 945 Broad St., was charged by summons Wednesday with simple assault. A woman told Washington police Ward allegedly reached through the open window of the parked car in which she was sitting with her children and allegedly punched her in the head and face.
