Greene Co. offering self-defense program
The Greene County Department of Recreation will host a six-week Women’s Self-Defense program at 1:30 p.m. Sundays, beginning Feb. 19, in the upper level of building 10 at the Greene County Fairgrounds.
According to www.rainn.org, every 98 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted.
“Don’t say it can never happen to you,” said instructor Mark Shrader of Mark Shrader’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Washington.
Shrader will lead the program. He will discuss violence prevention, dealing with fears and methods to build a sense of empowerment. He not only will use physical training, but also psychological awareness and verbal skills to successfully prevent, escape, resist and survive violent assaults.
The six-week program fee is $75 per individual. Deadline to register and submit payment is Feb. 10.
Classes may be canceled due to lack of participation or inclement weather. Announcements will be made on WANB Radio and the Greene County Commissioners Facebook page.
