Waynesburg wins five weights, PAC wrestling title

Waynesburg University won five of the 10 weight classes to take home the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Wrestling Championship at Washington & Jefferson College.

Heavyweight Jake Evans, who was voted the PAC’s Most Outstanding Wrestler, needed just 2:49 to win his three bouts in the tournament, including a pin of W&J’s Nick Kumburis in the final in 1:40.

Tristan Buxton (125), a Trinity High School graduate, Shaun Wilson (149), a Waynesburg High School graduate, Ryan Shank (184) and Ken Burrs (197) also won titles for the Yellow Jackets. The PAC title was Waynesburg’s fifth.

Hunter Neely, a Bentworth graduate, won the 157-pound title for W&J, which also had Sonnieboy Blanco win the 174-pound championship.

W&J finished second, followed by Thiel and Thomas More. Waynesburg head coach Ron Headlee was voted PAC Coach of the Year.
