Action: Mayor and council directed the solicitor to research titles on six properties for the city’s demolition list. The properties are 125-127 Church St., 284 Locust Ave., 217 Oak St., 436 Addison St., 333 Locust Ave. and 34 E. Prospect Ave.
Council approved advertising the vacancy of a collection clerk position in the tax office.
Richard Beack was appointed to the Washington-East Washington Joint Authority board.
Council approved a first reading of a joint zoning ordinance with East Washington Borough. The ordinance divides the city and borough into specified zoning districts and contains regulations for the use of land, dimension requirements, off-street parking, signs, landscaping, nonconforming uses and planned residential developments.
A motion to apply for a $10,000 grant for new portable radios for the police department was approved.
The police department will advertise and begin the process of creating a civil service list for hiring officers.
Council awarded a bid to Trapuzzano’s Uniforms for ballistic vests for city police officers. The bid, the only one received, was for $24,335, or $785 per vest. About $11,000 in grant money and a $10,000 private donation will be used toward the purchase.
Mayor Scott Putnam reminded residents they have 24 hours to remove snow from sidewalks after a snowstorm.
