Police Beat Feb. 2
Truck hits pole: A truck hit a utility pole in the 3400 block of Route 40 at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, state police said, and the driver left the scene.
Cruelty charge: Cory Andrew Rogers, 21, of 353 Beacon Ave., Canton, was charged this week by state police after he allegedly shot and killed his neighbor’s cat Thursday with a BB gun. The owner of the cat told police the animal was in her backyard when she heard a muffled pop and saw it get shot. Rogers allegedly shot the cat from his bedroom window. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
Theft arrest: Justin Rose, 21, of 1205 McKean Ave., Charleroi, was arrested Tuesday by Charleroi Regional police on a charge of theft after he allegedly stole a man’s wallet containing $362 while they were both at 1115 McKean on Monday. He was arraigned before District Judge David Mark and placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
Assault charges: James E. Skidmore, 36, of 24 Kadon Drive, North Franklin, was arrested Tuesday by township police on three counts of simple assault and one count of harassment. He is accused of assaulting his wife and 16-year-old daughter at their home. He reportedly was angry because the two were arguing. Skidmore threw a potted plant, hitting a door, during the confrontation, police said. He was arraigned before District Judge David Mark and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Driver hurt: Derek T. Lanius, 33, of Orange, Texas, suffered a minor injury when his truck hit a guardrail as he was getting off Interstate 79 north at the Houston exit about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, state police said. He was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment.
One injured: Rice Hilliard, 46, of 34 Adams St., Cokeburg, was injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Route 519 at Wilson Road, North Strabane police said. A vehicle driven by Nicole Kemmerling, 24, no address available, failed to stop for a stop sign and struck Hilliard’s vehicle, police said. Hilliard was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment.
Theft, drug arrest: Amy Kisner, 28, of 70 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, was arrested Tuesday by South Strabane police on charges of retail theft, possession of heroin and possession of paraphernalia after she allegedly stole items from Kohl’s, Strabane Square. She was arraigned before District Judge David Mark and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Cellphone stolen: William Sutherland of Washington told South Strabane police Tuesday his son’s iPhone was stolen from the gymnasium at Trinity East School, Cameron Road, during basketball practice.
Drug arrest: Jeffrey Sebrosky, 62, of 2007 Hillcrest Drive, Bethel Park, was arrested early Tuesday by Monongahela police stemming from a traffic stop near the intersection of Route 88 and Brownsville Road Extension, Union. Police said he had 16 bags of suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned on drug charges and a charge of driving under the influence before District Judge Mark Wilson and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
Two face charges: Matthew Cooper, 27, of 34443 Fawn Valley Lane, Finleyville, and his passenger, Jason Jenkins, 25, of 3426 Finleyville-Elrama Road, Finleyville, face charges after a traffic stop Monday by Monongahela police on Finleyville-Elrama Road near Gastonville Elementary School. Cooper will be charged with possession of heroin and paraphernalia. Jenkins will be charged with possession of paraphernalia. The charges will be sent from the office of District Judge James Ellis.
Brother arrested: James E. Gaston Jr., 25, of 666 Broad St., Washington, was arrested Wednesday by Washington police for allegedly punching his 27-year-old brother in a face during a confrontation at their home. Gaston was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of simple assault and harassment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Vehicle damaged: Robert Holmes of 629 Ewing St. told Washington police Tuesday the doors and gasoline tank lid on his vehicle were damaged.
TV, rifle stolen: James Latel of 54 E. Maiden St. told Washington police Tuesday a flat-screen television and pump-action rifle were stolen from his home.
Purse stolen: Catherine Henderson of Claysville told Washington police Tuesday a bag containing a wallet with cash, credit cards and identification was stolen last week while she was at Kid Biz, 325 E. Maiden St.
