Police beat Feb. 9
Assault charges: Alexis Chantal Sherman, 24, of Madison Street, Cokeburg, and Ron Avance Jr., 32, of 531 W. Chestnut St., Washington, are each charged by state police with simple assault and harassment stemming from a disturbance about 6 p.m. Tuesday, court records show. She is accused of assaulting Avance at her home after he allegedly tried to take drug paraphernalia from her, police said. Avance, who also is charged with aggravated assault, was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of a broken rib. Sherman suffered a fractured right arm during a struggle over a cigarette lighter, court records show. Sherman was released on $5,000 unsecured bond set by District Judge Curtis Thompson. Avance is in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond set by District Judge Mark Wilson.
Warrant arrest: Deana Hixenbaugh, 32, of 79 Elm Road, Avella, was taken into custody on outstanding warrants and a probation detainer Tuesday by Washington police on Jefferson Avenue. Police spotted her at one business, but she ran and went into a second business where she was taken into custody. Hixenbaugh was found with six syringes and a spoon. She will be charged with possession of paraphernalia. Hixenbaugh was placed in Washington County Jail.
Purse stolen: Tanika Bailey, 209 Linn Ave., told Washington police Tuesday that her purse containing identification was stolen from her home.
