East Maiden Street near the intersection with South Wade Avenue in Washington was reduced to one lane of traffic early Wednesday after a tractor-trailer hit a concrete barrier under a railroad trestle.

City police said the rig that crashed into the barrier just before 3:30 a.m. was driven by Jason Stansell of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Fire Chief Linn Brookman said the truck rode down the concrete barrier, ripping open the saddle fuel tank and spilling less than 50 gallons of diesel. The railroad trestle was not damaged, he said.

Crews from Weavertown Environmental were called to clean up the fuel and the road was reopened in both directions by 7:30 a.m. A state Department of Environmental Protection representative was at the scene later in the day to make sure the cleanup was complete.
