C-H boys win first section title since 1995
Andrew Clark scored a career-high 27 points and had eight of Chartiers-Houston’s 14 three-point field goals as the Bucs clinched the Section 2-AA title with an 88-42 rout of Jefferson-Morgan.
The section title was only the second since 1995 and third since 1957 for the Bucs (11-0, 16-4).
Clark sand six of his eight three-point field goals in a 30-point first quarter. His eight threes ties a school record set by A.J. Myers, set last season against Fort Cherry. Myers finished this game with 18 points and Cam Hanley had 11.
D.L. Garrett paced Jefferson-Morgan (1-9, 4-15) with 15 points and Gage Clark added 10.
Canon-McMillan 68, Baldwin 67, OT: RJ Bell hit a three-point field goal with 11 seconds remaining in overtime and a potential game-winning putback basket went off too late as Canon-McMillan won a thriller, 68-67, in a Section 2 game in Class 6-A.
The win puts the Big Macs (8-3, 16-5) in sole possession of second place in the section.
Bell scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and overtime for C-M. Britton Beachy sank four free throws in a row in OT after a foul, then technical foul on the Highlanders (7-4, 13-7).
Jake Monroe, who led Baldwin with 16 points, hit two free throws at the end of regulation to send it to overtime. Nick Fiumara scored 27 points for Baldwin.
Kenyan Lewis had 14 for the Big Macs.
California 73, Bentworth 39: Kass Taylor poured in 16 points to help California down Bentworth, 73-39, in a Section 2-AA game.
Johnny DeFranco and Ben Wilson had 10 points apiece for California (7-4, 16-4), which clinched third place in the section.
The Bearcats (6-6, 11-10) were led by Ray Logan’s 10 points.
Mt. Lebanon 63, Peters Township 47: Mt. Lebanon broke a 10-10 tie after one quarter by outscoring Peters Township by 12 over the middle quarters and went on to a 63-47 win in Section 2 in Class 6-A.
Mark Lemandola scored a game-high 29 points for Mt. Lebanon (10-1, 13-7).
Conor Pederson led the Indians (5-6, 12-8).
Laurel Highlands 67, Ringgold 56: Hudson Novak scored a game-high 28 points to lead Laurel Highlands to a 67-56 win over Ringgold in a Section 1 game in Class 5-A.
Bryce Laskey added 21 and William Deichert 10 for LH (8-3, 16-5).
Anthony Pampena led the Rams (4-7, 9-12) with 22 points. Dakota Browning chipped in with 18.
Fort Cherry 83, Western Beaver 43: Ryhan Culberson scored 29 points to power Fort Cherry to an 83-43 victory over Western Beaver in a non-section game.
Devon Brown contributed 21 points for the Ranger (15-5), who led 41-21 at halftime.
Western Beaver fell to 5-15. after losing its eighth straight.
West Greene 53, Avella 30: Craig Weaver had 14 points and 15 rebounds, going over the 1,000-mark for rebounds in his career, as West Green defeated Avella, 53-20, in Section 2-A.
Weaver scored his 1,000th point earlier this season for the Pioneers (6-4, 13-6).
Nathan Brudnock had 15 points and Kolton Rush 11 for West Greene.
Austin Lis led Avella (3-7, 5-15) with 11 points.
Waynesburg 60, South Park 59: Lucas Garber hit two free throws with 2.8 seconds remaining to lift Waynesburg to a 60-59 Section 3-AAAA win over South Park.
Darton McIntire scored 28 points and Garber 17 for the Raiders (1-12, 2-19), who fell behind 28-14 after one quarter only to battle back.
Joey Tarris had 17 points for South Park (4-9, 6-15), which also got 10 from Damon Smith.
Trinity 65, West Mifflin 46: Jaden Nelson’s 16 points helped Trinity overcome a slow start to knock off West Mifflin, 65-46, in a Section 1-5A game.
Joey Koroly added 15 points and Dylan Kern had 13 for the Hillers (8-3, 12-8), who trailed, 17-13, after one quarter.
Darrell Carey led West Mifflin (1-10, 3-17) with 10 points.
Washington 75, Beth-Center 40: Matt Popeck’s 31 points helped Washington defeat Beth-Center, 75-40, in a Section 4-AAA game.
Jacob Swartz added 17 points and Isiah Robinson 14 for the Prexies, who finished off their section schedule at 12-0 while improving to 17-3 overall.
Brennan Stanley had 16 points and J.J. Greene 13 for Beth-Center (0-11, 5-14).
Charleroi 74, South Side Beaver 62: Sam Miceli’s 32 points helped Charleroi pull away from South Side Beaver in a 74-62 Section 4-AAA game.
Dremar Everett had 17 and Eric Tedro 11 for the Cougars (7-4, 12-9).
Jake McDougal led South Side Beaver (2-9, 6-15) with 18 points, while Logan English added 16.
Frazier 64, Carmichaels 43: Chris Massey scored 22 points as Frazier kept its slim playoff hopes alive with a 64-43 Section 2-AA win over Carmichaels.
Josh Cox added 12 points for Frazier (4-6, 5-16), which has section games remaining against Jefferson-Morgan and California.
Chris McAfee scored 11 and Matt Barrish had 10 for Carmichaels (0-11, 6-15).
Belle Vernon 72, Uniontown 44: Derek Thomas scored 22 points to lead Belle Vernon to a 72-44 win over Uniontown in a Section 3-AAAA game.
