EBENSBURG (AP) – Officials at a Western Pennsylvania county jail are investigating two inmate drug overdoses in recent days.

Cambria County jail officials were already investigating the overdose by a female inmate on Saturday, who had to be revived with Narcan. That drug counteracts heroin and other opioids.

Officials still hadn’t announced how that inmate got drugs inside the jail when a second female inmate overdosed Wednesday and had to be taken to a hospital.

Warden Christian Smith says he believes the second woman likely ingested the drugs before she entered the jail and was placed in a holding cell to be processed.

Officials haven’t released the names of either inmate.

The jail is in Ebensburg, about 75 miles east of Pittsburgh.
