Embarrassed by funding decision
I was shocked to learn that East Washington Borough Council wants to discontinue all funding to Citizens Library. As a member of the community, I am embarrassed about such a decision.
At one time, members of the community felt that the library was a valued asset. They were proud of it, and gladly supported it with large annual donations.
Have we sunk to such a level of anti-intellectualism that we no longer need to support an institution that our ancestors scrimped and saved to build and support?
It seems to me and many of my acquaintances that by abandoning the library, we are slipping back into a state of ignorance instead of moving further into the light of knowledge.
