Trump is enforcing the law

Few things in my life have been funnier or sillier than watching the left rend their garments over the supposed “Muslim ban” that Donald Trump enacted through executive fiat. You’d think that mom, apple pie, and the American flag – three things the left has proven it holds no regard for – were under attack.

Now, pay close attention – and this means you, too, editorial staff of the Observer-Reporter. You’ve been a party to the same shenanigans. Here is the unvarnished truth, whether you like it or not.

8 U.S. Code Section 1182 reads like this: “Inadmissible aliens (f) suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by the President.

Whenever the President finds that admission of aliens or any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he deems necessary, suspend entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non-immigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem appropriate.”

That is existing law. For the record, the last five presidents have used this maneuver 43 times – including Barack Obama, who suspended Iraqi visas for six months in 2011.

I don’t recall any whining or sniveling over that one. Where were the protests over that one? Maybe I slept through it? A statement released by the National Border Patrol Council and National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council reads like this:

“(W)e fully support and appreciate President Trump’s swift and decisive action to keep the American people safe and allow law enforcement to do its job,” the statement noted. “We applaud the three executive orders he has issued to date, and are confident they will make America safer and more prosperous.”

Furthermore, President Obama signed into law on Dec, 18, 2015, as a portion of the Omnibus Appropriations Act of FY2016, a measure that selected the specific Muslim countries that were named in Trump’s executive order, which is why he chose these countries. Trump, for the most part, is just enforcing and executing the law that was signed by Obama. The president is simply doing what he promised he would do during his campaign.

Now, let’s all hitch up our pants, dry our crocodile tears, sit down, stop hyperventilating, and try our level best to be respectful adults.

That last word is key – adults.
