TUNICA, Miss. – Monessen native Sammy Vasquez suffered his second consecutive defeat Thursday night, losing to fellow southpaw Luis Collazo after being hit with a right hook that dropped him to the mat in the sixth round of their welterweight fight at the Horseshow Casino.

The fight, which was shown live on FS1, was scheduled to go 10 rounds.

Collazo, 35, improved to 37-7 with the victory. The former WBA International welterweight title holder recorded his 20th career knockout.

Vasquez, 30, had won his first 21 fights before dropping his past two. The knockout loss was the first of his career.

He lost a decision last July to former Olympic champion Felix Diaz. It was later learned that Vasquez (21-2) was suffering from kidney stones as a result of a tumor.

He had surgery last fall and was making his return to the ring.
