A Keystone Oaks teacher who was accused in September of hitting a female student at the school was charged with simple assault Friday night after Peters Township police said he caused a disturbance at his parents’ McMurray home.

Police said Michael A. Magri, 34, went to the home of his parents, Frank and Jacqueline Magri, at 409 Cheri Drive, about 7:30 p.m. and began pounding on the door.

His mother opened the door and Magri came in holding a 10-inch kitchen knife, police said. He began shouting vulgarities and threw a folding chair, according to police.

Magri then left the home on his motorcycle. Court documents did not say what prompted the incident or where police arrested him.

Magri, of 318 Stonebrook Drive, McMurray, was arraigned late Friday night by District Judge Larry Hopkins and taken to Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Judge James Ellis at 1:15 p.m. March 21.

Magri, a wood shop teacher at Keystone Oaks High School, earlier was cited for harassment after Mt. Lebanon police said he struck a female student with a closed fist Sept. 15 in what investigators described at the time as an incident that was “sophomoric in nature.” He pleaded guilty to the citation Jan. 12, according to online court records.

Superintendent William Stropkaj sent a letter to parents Sept. 23 informing them that Magri was placed on “administrative leave” following the incident.

Stropkaj, who said he was unaware of Friday’s altercation in Peters Township until contacted by a reporter Monday, said Magri has remained on administrative leave since the September incident with the student.
