Man arrested on drug charges
A Denbo man was arrested Thursday by state police after he was found with suspected cocaine and crack during a traffic stop after he had been under surveillance by investigators.
George A. Briggs, 56, of First Street, was taken into custody during the traffic stop at Route 88 and Community Road in East Bethlehem Township.
State police, in court documents filed at the office of District Judge David Mark, indicated they had been investigating since December the delivery of heroin, cocaine and prescription medication in Washington and Fayette counties.
Police said Briggs was seen getting into a vehicle in a lot of a West Brownsville business. He got out of that vehicle and met with another man before returning to the original vehicle. The occupants drove back to the same lot, where Briggs got out of that vehicle and into a silver Cadillac. That car was then stopped by police.
Briggs was arraigned before Mark on a charge of delivery of cocaine and crack. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. Briggs is in jail on a state parole violation. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 14 before District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
