Mt. Morris man facing rape charges
WAYNESBURG – A Megan’s List offender is facing felony charges for allegedly raping a woman in January at his Waynesburg mobile home.
Waynesburg police said Ulysses A. Zimmerman, 33, of 119 Ridge Road, Mt. Morris, contacted the victim by phone the night of Jan. 19, asking her to come to his residence, which was then at 260 W. High St.
Police said the victim was dropped off at his house by friends about 11 p.m. He allegedly answered the door in a T-shirt and boxers, and all the lights in the home were off, according to the criminal complaint.
The woman told police Zimmerman told her his friend was “sleeping in the back,” but she never saw anyone other than Zimmerman.
She told police Zimmerman began hugging her and trying to kiss her on the neck, but she told him “no” and turned to block him. Police said that’s when he grabbed her and raped her before leaving the room.
The woman told police she resisted and repeatedly told him “no.” She told police when Zimmerman returned to the room, he attempted to continue touching her against her will.
The woman told police she called family members, who picked her up from Zimmerman’s house early the following morning. She was taken to WHS-Greene hospital, where she had a rape kit done and where police interviewed her.
On Jan. 26, police served a search warrant at the mobile home and seized a white blanket and drug paraphernalia. Police charged Zimmerman with rape, sexual assault, criminal attempt, indecent exposure and harassment.
While investigating the rape allegations, police discovered Zimmerman, a convicted sex offender, had not registered his new Mt. Morris address. As a result, police charged him with failure to comply with registration in a separate case.
Zimmerman’s 15-year registration requirement stems from an October 2013 incident involving a young girl in Richhill Township. He pleaded guilty in December of that year to corruption of minors and indecent assault. Greene County Judge Farley Toothman sentenced him in April 2014 to 180 days to 23 ½ months in jail.
Zimmerman is free on $50,000 unsecured bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. March 31.
