School registration
Central Greene School District will conduct registration for kindergarten students and first-graders new to the district for the 2017-18 school year May 2-4 at Waynesburg Central Elementary School. Children must be 5 years old before June 1 to be eligible for kindergarten; children must be 6 years old before June 1 to attend first grade.
Parents who would like to complete an application for the Community Action Southwest prekindergarten program also can do so at this time. Classes will be held at Waynesburg Central Elementary School and Waynesburg Central High School.
At registration, parents must provide proof of the child’s birth, immunization records and proof of residency. Parents of children who have unusual medical conditions or history also must provide the treating physician’s name and address. Required immunizations for registration include: four D.T. immunizations (with one being on or after the fourth birthday); three polio; two measles, mumps and rubella; three hepatitis B; and two chickenpox vaccines, or documented proof of disease or titer level from the child’s physician.
Speech and language therapists and hearing specialists will be testing children. A vision screening also will be held.
There will be various activity/play centers available for the children who are being registered. Additionally, guidance counselors, a kindergarten teacher and principals will be available to answer questions.
Registration packets are available in the elementary school office, and can be completed in advance and brought to registration. Packets also will be available the day of registration.
Registration will be held in the elementary school gym as follows:
• May 2 – 8:30 to 11 a.m., for children whose last names begin with A to C;
• May 2 – Noon to 2:30 p.m., for children whose last names begin with D to H;
• May 3 – 8:30 to 11 a.m., for children whose last names begin with I to M;
• May 3 – Noon to 2:30 p.m., for children whose last names begin with N to R;
• May 4 – 8:30 to 11 a.m., for children whose last names begin with S to T;
• May 4 – Noon to 2:30 p.m., for children whose last names begin with U to Z.
Those who are unable to attend their assigned session should call the Waynesburg Central Elementary School office at 724-627-3081 as soon as possible to make an appointment for another time.
St. Patrick School, 200 Murdock St., Canonsburg, is holding registration for 3 and 4-year-old preschool, all-day prekindergarten, all-day kindergarten and kindergarten through eighth grade. The school offers before and after-school care, differentiated instruction, gospel-centered values, high academic standards, smaller class sizes and tuition aid for qualifying families. Interested guardians are welcome to visit during school hours to pick up a registration packet.
