Waynesburg moves to ECAC title game

PITTSBURGH – Waynesburg placed give players in double digits, led by Katie Gehlmann’s 17 points, as the Yellow Jackets defeated Springfield, 79-50, in the semifinals of the women’s basketball ECAC Tournament at Carnegie Mellon Saturday.

Monica Starre added 16 points, while Chartiers-Houston graduate Addy Knetzer recorded a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (19-11), who will face Carnegie Mellon in today’s championship game (noon).

Waynesburg, which forced 20 turnovers and limited Springfield (20-9) to making just 18 of 64 shots from the floor, also got 12 points from Haley Delaney and 10 from Kassidy O’Keefe.

Waynesburg led 17-8 after one quarter and put the game away with a 24-12 run in the third quarter.
