New charges filed against Michigan man
An additional charge of corruption of minors has been filed against a Michigan man accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl last week at the Econo Lodge in Franklin Township.
Police filed a search warrant the afternoon of March 13 for a room at the motel registered to 52-year-old Gary Wayne Melick Jr. of Commerce Township.
Police said the man contacted the girl by cellphone earlier that day and told her to meet him at the Marathon Gas station on High Street in Morrisville. Police said the girl had sex with Melick at the motel before he dropped her off at the McDonald’s next door.
At the motel, police seized sheets, towels and a garbage bag, among other items. They filed a warrant for Melick’s arrest that same day on charges of statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors. Police did not have him in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.
