Common ground can be reached on health care
In the past, U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy has met with and listened to our members, consumers, and staff. Because of his involvement in disability issues, he has long recognized the importance of protecting patients with pre-existing conditions, including mental illness and substance abuse. The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, currently provides necessary, life-sustaining health care coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.
At our first “People’s Town Hall” on Feb. 21, a broad cross-section of neighbors and community members shared their personal health care experiences. After hearing each other’s stories about how the Affordable Care Act makes a difference in our lives and in our ability to work, I and my TRIPIL colleagues created a five-point summary document of the most common topics.
Given the congressman’s established position on pre-existing conditions, we are sure that common ground can be reached. To that end, we delivered to his office in Mt. Lebanon the written summary of the community discussion.
With this in hand, Murphy has an opportunity to directly represent our goals for the future of health care in this country.
