A public safety issue
In the past several months, there have been two pedestrians hit crossing the intersection at South Main and Maiden streets in Washington.
Another accident nearly occurred April 6. A man was crossing South Main with the green light when he was nearly hit by a car turning left from Maiden Street. Only his quick reflexes prevented another accident.
This intersection requires a crossing signal that actually works. It requires one that stops traffic in every direction during every cycle, such as the one at Main and Beau streets. It seems there are more pedestrian incidents at this intersection than at any other in the city.
This is a public safety issue.
