A Houston man was arrested early Tuesday by state police after he allegedly struck his stepson with a baseball bat during a confrontation at their home.

Michael Anthony Maloy, 40, of 114 E. Grant St., is accused of hitting the boy and the boy’s 38-year-old mother, Angela Maloy.

State police were called just before 2 a.m. to 114 E. Grant St. for a reported domestic. When they arrived, Maloy was standing at the entrance. He had dried blood around his nose and mouth. The teen was standing behind him. The 17-year-old had a laceration on his forehead above his right eye. He also had blood around his nose and mouth.

Police learned that Maloy and his wife got into an argument that turned physical. He reportedly grabbed her by the throat and hair and punched her in the head. He also got her on the floor. She told police that she took a swing at him but could not remember if she struck her husband.

The boy then reportedly came up from the basement with an aluminum ball bat and told Maloy to get off his mother, police said. Maloy reportedly grabbed the bat and struggled with the teen. He then got the bat and started hitting the 17-year-old with it.

Maloy reportedly first jabbed the boy in the stomach and then hit him twice in the back, before jabbing him in the face, police added. The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC for treatment.

Maloy was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller on charges of aggravated assault and simple assault as well as two counts of harassment. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for March 21 before District Judge David Mark.
