Lions Club recognizes four West Greene students
The West Greene Lions Club has named four outstanding students from West Greene High School for March: Jessica Jacobs, Emily Hughes, Eric Hickman and Emily Engle-Young.
Jessica Jacobs is a daughter of Mark and Laura Jacobs of Sycamore. She is the president of the drama club and a member of the art and engineering clubs. She is also a member of the senior planning committee. Jacobs has done volunteer work for the Salvation Army and Bowlby Public Library. She has also participated in Young Life. She plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania to study psychology and theater.
Emily Hughes is a daughter of John and Vicky Hughes of Rutan. She is the vice president of the science club, a member of National Honor Society and was on the staff of the West Greene Informer newspaper. She is a member of Wind Ridge Christian Church, where she has volunteered for outreach projects, food drives and vacation Bible school. She has also volunteered with the Help-Portrait program through McMillen Photography. Hughes plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania to study journalism or psychology.
Eric Hickman is a son of John and Hollie Iams of Sycamore. He is the president of the science club and member of the envirothon team and National Honor Society. He was a first-place winner in the science fair and ranked second in his junior class. He volunteers with Southwest Regional Medical Center. Hickman plans to attend Waynesburg University to study biology.
Emily Engle-Young is a daughter of Christopher and Carol Young of Holbrook. She is a member of the art club, vice president of the Spanish club, Quiz Bowl team, Students Against Destructive Decisions, captain of the track and field team, senior planning committee, corresponding secretary of National Honor Society and captain of the volleyball team. Engle-Young has earned the academic honors award, 2010 rookie of the year for volleyball, American Citizenship Award, All A’s Star Student Award, the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award and Pittsburgh City Theater Young Playwrights Festival Award. She volunteers with the Cherry Door, Red Cross blood drive and as a tutor. Engle-Young plans to pursue a career as a nurse anesthetist.
