Slot machine revenue down in most recent fiscal year
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said Thursday slot machine revenue declined 2.2 percent during the recently completed 2016/2017 state fiscal year, compared to the previous fiscal year.
The findings were part of a report posted on the board’s website that provides monthly revenue figures for all 12 of the commonwealth’s casinos.
Slot machine revenue was down in 10 of the 12 months during the fiscal year, with a 2016/2017 total of $2,336,508 compared to $2,388,658,549 during the 2015/2016 fiscal year.
Tax revenue produced through slot machine play during the 2016/2017 fiscal year totaled $1,236,670,146.
The board notes these figures reflect just slot machine revenue and not total gaming revenue that includes table games.
According to PGCB, since the opening of the first casino in November 2006, revenue from slot machine play has totaled $22.4 billion, resulting in a tax generation of $12.1 billion.
According to historical figures provided by the board, the highest year of slot machine revenue was the 2011/2012 fiscal year, when the casinos produced gross slot machine revenue of $2,476,775,317, resulting in $1,345,087,522.
Locally, The Meadows Casino saw its fiscal year gross revenue from slot machine play fall 3.57 percent from $225,970,692 in FY 2015/16 to $217,910,016 in FY 2016/17. During the same period, Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino gross terminal revenue fell 2.46 percent, while Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin in Farmington rose 0.76 percent.
Separately, the PGCB provided monthly slot machine revenue for June, which totaled $188,520,750 in gross revenue, slightly less than the $189,976,690 generated in June 2016.
At The Meadows Casino, June gross terminal revenue of $17,022,395 was down 4.86 percent from the $17,891,658 reported in June 2016.
