State Rep. John A. Maher, who represents Peters Township and parts of Allegheny County, was charged last week with driving under the influence of alcohol in a Harrisburg suburb.

Police in East Pennsboro Township July 3 filed the charge against Maher, R-Upper St. Clair, and also making an illegal U-turn and driving the wrong way June 13, online court records indicate.

Records show police accused Maher of having a blood-alcohol content of 0.16 or above, which is the highest threshold under the law in Pennsylvania. It’s his first DUI offense.

The case was filed before District Judge Richard S. Dougherty.

Maher did not reply to an email seeking comment Sunday.

An East Pennsboro officer on duty Sunday referred comment on the case to the township’s police chief, who was not working that day.
