BRAVE – A bicyclist who was struck by a car Tuesday in Wayne Township is said to be doing “OK” by a family member.

Bea Dodson said her 73-year-old father-in-law, Homer Dodson of Brave, is recovering at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., after suffering severe injuries to his left leg. Initial reports at the scene indicated Dodson was 77.

“He’s got a long recovery to go,” she said. “We just ask that people be respectful of what we’re going through.”

Greene County Regional police said Dodson was leaving his driveway in the 400 block of Toms Run Road, when he “rode into traffic” and was struck by a car driven by Charles Rose of New Freeport just before noon.

Greene County Regional police Chief Michael Natale said Rose did not have cell phone service in that area to call 911 after the crash, so his wife got out of their car to stay with Dodson while Rose drove to an area where he could call for help. He then returned to the scene, Natale said.

Police said the Brave Volunteer Fire Department and Southwest EMS responded to the scene before it was determined that Dodson be flown by helicopter to Ruby Memorial.

Police said Rose is “cooperating fully” with the crash investigation and no charges have been filed against him.
