Northwood race to benefit City Mission’s vets project
Northwood Realty’s charitable arm is gearing up to hold its second annual Mission Possible 5K Race/1-Mile Fun Walk at 7 p.m. Aug. 12, at Peterswood Park, pavilion 4, 750 Bebout Road, Venetia.
Race proceeds will benefit City Mission’s new 22-bed shelter for homeless veterans, Patriot House, which is under construction at 84 W. Wheeling St., and will be completed in March.
“Northwood loves supporting causes that the community cares about,” said Jeff McCartney, a member of Northwood charitable’s board of directors and Peters Township Realtor. “And this community cares about veterans. Fortunately, in my work with City Mission, I was able to introduce these two great organizations.”
“We tell everyone that the veterans have served us, so it’s our turn to serve them,” said Dean Gartland, president/CEO of City Mission.
This is the City Mission’s second Mission Possible 5K run with the Northwood Foundation. Last year’s run brought out 96 runners and walkers.
“We’re hoping that this run will bring out even more,” Gartland said.
Registration can be completed online at www.racewire.com. The $25 fee will insure that participants get a race T-shirt. Same-day registration will be held from 6 to 6:45 a.m. in the parking lot of VFW Post 764, 460 Valleybrook Road, McMurray.
“VFW Post 764 has been of considerable assistance in nailing down the details,” said Emily Hillebrand, race coordinator and Peters Township Realtor. “We want this to be a race about veterans and for veterans.”
