4-H and FFA scholarship winners
The 2017 Washington County 4-H and FFA Scholarship Fund presented $2,000 scholarship awards Saturday at the Washington County Fair 4-H and FFA Livestock Sale. Winners were:
• Noel Rae Arbes of Country Clovers and Silver Bits. She is studying X-ray technician/sonography at Community College of Allegheny County. Her parents are Phil and Amy Arbes.
• Tyler William Bunts of Golden Hoofs 4-H. He is studying engineering at West Virginia University. His parents are Michael and Janet Bunts.
• Shelby Doman of Crossroads. She is studying nursing at Waynesburg University. Her parents are Rich and Billie Jo Doman.
• James Hackinson of Hickory Ag. He is studying building science and sustainable design at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. His parents are Art and Shelia Hackinson.
• Elizabeth Hathaway of Heche de Cuatro & Commidad. She is studying construction management at Kent State University. Her parents are Russ and MariAnn Hathaway.
• Hayden Heinrich of 84 Ag. He is studying environmental science at Ranger College in Texas and California University of Pennsylvania. His parents are Jim and Amy Heinrich.
• Susie G. Jones of Frazier Simplex. She is studying mechanical engineering at Grove City College. Her parents are Mark and Wendy Jones.
• Hannah Lacey of South Pike Pioneers. She is attending Washington & Jefferson College. Her parents are W. Thomas and Suzy Lacey.
• Caitlyn McConn of West Alex Ag and McGuffy FFA. She is studying animal and nutritional science at West Virginia University. Her parents are Jeff and Peggy McConn.
• Trisha Marie Mihalek of Pike Run. She is studying surgical technology at Pittsburgh Technical College. Her parents are Mark and Janet Mihalek.
• Christina Motichak of Pike Run. She is studying chemistry at California University of Pennsylvania. Her parents are Robert and Sandra Motichak.
• Megan Spina of 4-Leaf. She is studying business management at Waynesburg University. Her parents are Tim and Donna Spina.
• Alyssa Stieglitz of Silver Bits. She is studying diagnostic medical sonography at Community College of Allegheny County. Her mother is Tracy Stieglitz.
• T.J. Vercek of Cecil 4-H. He is studying engineering at West Virginia University. His parents are Tony and Debbie Vercek.
• Mackenzie Wagner of Glyde 4-H. She is studying biology while pursuing a degree in pharmacy at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. Her parents are Jim and Lori Wagner.
• Mackenzie White of VanKirk Friendship. She is studying health care management at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Her parents are Gary White and Janet Naser-White.
• Emma Leigh Zediker of 84 Ag. She is studying nursing at St. Francis University. Her parents are Bill and Tina Zediker.
Scholarships are given annually to deserving 4-Hers and FFA members to help with the expenses for advanced education.
To be eligible, the 4-H or FFA member must complete one year in an institution of higher learning. Scholarship winners can receive the award only once. Financial support comes from the Washington County Fair 4-H and FFA Livestock buyers and the West Alexander Fair 4-H and Livestock buyers, who donate money to the 4-H Scholarship Fund. Donations also are received from 4-H alumni and friends of 4-H. All active Washington County and Ohio County 4-Hers and FFA members can apply for the scholarship. Applications are available at the Washington County Extension office, 100 W. Beau St., Suite 601, Washington, PA 15301.
