Ringgold football players charged with assault
Two members of the Ringgold High School football team were charged Monday with assaulting a fellow player last week at the school in Carroll Township.
Ringgold School District police filed misdemeanor counts of simple assault against Dezmier Alize Majors and Tyrese Lamont Youngblood, both 18 and from Donora, stemming from the alleged assault at the high school, a district official said. Youngblood also faces a charge of harassment in the case, online court records show.
Majors is listed as a 6-4, 220-pound tight end and Youngblood, a 6-1, 220-pound running back on Ringgold’s football roster.
Ringgold School Board President William Stein Jr. said he was briefed by District Superintendent Karen Polkabla about the incident and that it might have involved an intentional tripping of a 16-year-old football player.
Police said in court records the assault took place Wednesday.
Stein said he knew little else about the case. He said the board had yet to meet about it in executive session to discuss possible disciplinary action against the students who were facing charges. He said that might happen before the board meets in regular session at 7 p.m., Wednesday in the district administration building in New Eagle.
“The Ringgold School District takes any matter involving the safety of its student very seriously,” according to a Ringgold School District release. “The Administration is currently investigating this matter and it will take whatever action is appropriate to address this situation. Beyond that, the Ringgold School District does not comment on matters involving students or possible disciplinary matters.”
Police filed the charges against Youngblood and Majors before District Judge Larry Hopkins in Charleroi. The two face a preliminary hearing before Hopkins at 9 p.m. Oct. 19.
