Youth baseball getting under way
WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg Pony League Baseball Association has announced its opening day festivities for players in the Bronco and Mustang divisions. Bronco teams will play Saturday. Mustang teams will play Monday.
Addy Morrison of Jefferson will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at 11 a.m. Saturday at Emerald Field in Waynesburg for the 11:30 a.m. game, while Jacob Frye of Waynesburg will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at 3 p.m. for the 3:30 p.m. game. Marcus Armel of Holbrook will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Lion’s Club Field in Waynesburg for the 6 p.m. game.
All three will serve as honorary bat boys/girls for their respective games. Proceeds from snack bar sales, donations and 50/50 ticket sales will be divided equally among Morrison, Armel and Frye, who are receiving medical treatment.
The games will be announced by radio announcer and Assistant District Attorney John Friedman. Presenting the colors for the day will be Bravo Company, 1st of the 110th Infantry of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. The national anthem will be sung by a student from Central Greene School District.
A plaque will be placed on the concession stand in honor of the Baily family. The family has been involved in the league for more than 40 years. Patricia Baily, who took over her late husband’s position as the league bookkeeper, retired this year.
Raffle tickets for the Chevy Youth Baseball Raffle will be available for $5 per ticket. The raffle prizes include a chance to win a Chevy Traverse or one of 28 high-definition televisions. The tickets are sold across 14 districts to help support youth baseball leagues.
Baseball enthusiasts are welcome and encouraged to attend the opening day for the league.
