Man found with gunshot wound in Monongahela
Firefighters responding to a 911 call in Monongahela Saturday afternoon discovered a man with a gunshot wound to his chest.
The victim was found about 1:30 p.m. in a house in the 700 block of Yohe Street, said Trooper Robert Broadwater, state police spokesman.
Firefighters extinguished a small blaze in the house’s basement where, according to Broadwater, “miscellaneous boxes” were on fire. When firefighters were searching the house, they found the wounded man in an upstairs bedroom. Broadwater said it was not known whether it was a self-inflicted wound or he was shot by someone else.
A search warrant was obtained and the house was being searched Saturday night.
The man was transported to UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh. No information about his condition was available.
Friends of the victim were outside the house Saturday night, but declined to comment on the man or the incident.
