Racial hypocrisy on display
When candidate Donald Trump publicly disparaged the family of an Army captain who died in the line of duty, his fans cheered and voted for him. I guess that was OK because the Army captain and his family were Muslims.
When Trump diminished the meaning of the Purple Heart, his fans cheered and voted for him.
When Trump publicly insulted the service of a senator who had spent several years as a prisoner of war, and did it in a way that insulted all POWs, his fans cheered and voted for him.
But when a black athlete, quietly and respectfully, kneels during the national anthem, the howls of outrage are loud and predictable.
“They’re dishonoring the flag! They’re dishonoring the military!”
What we now see is American racial hypocrisy on full display. We now have a president ready to fan the flames of racial animus and division, just to satisfy his pathetic need to be the center of attention at all times.
We deserve better and we should demand better. Much, much, better.
