A regional revolution needed

Concerning a promised series of lengthy opinion pieces on illegal immigration by the Observer-Reporter’s right-wing contributor, Dave Ball, and his recent one on freedom of speech, propoganda is slanting the truth to the left or right. Karl Marx did not write propaganda. The socialist perspective is founded on his objectivity, science, and compassion, similar to Jesus Christ confronting the commercial interests inside the temple and identifying with society’s outcasts. Refugees, illegal immigrants, Latinos and Republicans are correct in tying despised minorities to American socialism.

On Sept. 13, Sen. Bernie Sanders introduced a bill to extend Medicare to every American. Unlike the past, when there were no co-sponsors, 16 U.S. senators have endorsed it. Opposition is melting along with the glaciers. Other countries pay half as much and cover everyone. A Sanders critic wrote in the Observer-Reporter that he favored a Venezuelan-style government and North Korean economy, which sounds like something one would hear on Fox News.

Ken Burns’ PBS series, “The Vietnam War,” is a history lesson that people like President Trump have not learned. The Age of Ignorance vies with the Age of Information and has the upper hand, for now. Back in 1968, televised images of American-made devastation in Vietnam fueled a revolution that barely caused a ripple locally. Seemingly far away, images of destruction from man-made climate change and racism fuel today’s need for a regional revolution.
