Softball: Burgettstown avenges loss, routs Canevin

Pitcher Bry Lonick scattered nine hits Tuesday as Burgettstown avenged its only Section 1-A loss with an 11-5 win over Bishop Canevin.
Caley Ritts paced a 17-hit attack for Burgettstown (12-1, 14-4), which has clinched at least a tie for the section title, with four hits and a double.
Mary Kleinwas the losing pitcher. Beth Pilch and Mary Clarke doubled for the Crusaders (7-5, 7-5).
• Olivia Lorrusso was 3-for-4 with a double and three-run homer to power Canon-McMillan to a 9-7 win over host Baldwin that assured the Big Macs of the outright Section 4-AAAA title.
Lorusso’s homer came in a four-run first inning for C-M (12-0, 13-1). The Big Macs led 9-4 in the fourth before Baldwin (7-5, 8-6), which had home runs by Kyala Eberst and Melissa Paternini, mounted a charge in the middle innings.
Alayna Astuto was the winning pitcher, and Kayla Kiger relieved in the fifth to earn a save. Taylor Bruno tripled, Linda Rush doubled and Abby McCartney drove in three runs for C-M.
• Mikayla Fetchett had an RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh, then was driven in by Baily Kormick as South Fayette handed Trinity its first Section 2-AAA loss, 4-3.
Ashley Iagnemma threw a five-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Lions (5-6, 8-6).
Trinity is 10-1, 10-3.
• Marlie Mounts and Balicia Hambleton each homered as McGuffey shut out Bentworth, 8-0, in Section 2-AA.
Winning pitcher Cassie Weiss scattered seven hits and struck out 11. Meghan Shultz doubled for the Highlanders (10-2, 10-5).
Mackenzie Marchitello doubled for Bentworth (6-5, 7-6).
• Erica Burns threw a five-inning one-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead Carmichaels to an 11-1 Section 2-A win over California.
Lindsay Osbourne homered, Morgan Berardi tripled and doubled, and Burns and Regina Menhart each doubled for the Mikes (12-1, 17-2).
California is 2-11, 3-12.
• Hannah Gibbons tripled, and winning pitcher Jordan Moore and Felicia Spitznogle each doubled, as Waynesburg routed Geibel Catholic, 17-1, in a four-inning non-section game.
Waynesburg’s record is 8-9.
• Winning pitcher Kayla Briggs struck out 14 batters, and Haley Sutton and Kassie Kesnick combined to drive in four runs, as Chartiers-Houston remained undefeated with a 7-2 victory over visiting Beth-Center in Section 2-AA.
Kesnick tripled and Sutton had a double for C-H, which is 11-0 in section and 14-0 overall. Briggs allowed only one walk and three hits. Abby Gustovich, B-C’s freshman pitcher, had two doubles.
• Jefferson-Morgan ran its winning streak to five games and knocked Monessen out of playoff contention by defeating the visiting Greyhounds 10-1 in Section 2-A.
The surging Rockets started quickly, scoring seven runs over the first two innings. That was more than enough offense for winning pitcher Maddie Lurdrosky, who threw a three-hitter and struck out 11.
Reagan Rush and Morgan Simkovic each doubled for J-M (6-7, 10-7), which is assured of a winning season.
Cara Grogan had all three hits, including two doubles, for Monessen (6-7, 10-7).
• Freshman Bailey Bennington threw a three-inning perfect game as West Greene won at winless Mapletown, 16-0, in Section 2-A.
Bennington struck out six of the nine batters she faced. Autumn Widdup led the offense for West Greene (6-7, 9-7) by going 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI. Bennington was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Taylor Horr was 2-for-2 and scored twice.
• Washington used an eight-run fourth inning to defeat visiting Fort Cherry, 10-5, in Section 2-AA.
Savannah Ammons had a two-run double during the big inning for Wash High (3-8, 3-8). Alanna Ammon also had a double to back the winning pitching of Taylor Ellis, who struck out seven.
• Lacey Washowich pitched a four-hit shutout and Belle Vernon scored three runs in the third inning en route to a 4-0 win over visiting South Park in Section 3-AAA.
• Abby Cunningham and Carly Knopka each homered as Peters Township routed Upper St. Clair, 16-0, in a four-inning Section 4-AAAA game,
Winning pitcher Kellyn Perich, Lindsay McKnight, Tori Weida, Knopka and Marlena Karavolis each doubled for the Indians (10-3, 16-3).
• Lauren Knight’s single in the fifth inning broke a tie game and sent Avella on to an 8-3 victory over visiting Northgate in Section 1-A.?Avella (4-9, 4-12) scored six runs over its final two innings. Jade Georgetti ha
d three hits, including a double, to lead the Eagles’ offense. D.J. Simonelli had three singles and Mikayla Allen doubled. Meghan Waddell was the winning pitcher.
• Celina Cantini earned the victory as Ringgold edged Moon, 3-2, in Section 2-AAA.
Ringgold is now 5-6, 8-6, while Moon falls to 3-7, 4-8.
