SOFTBALL: Burns helps Carmichaels to Section 2-A win over West Greene

Erica Burns was three for four with two doubles and scored four runs to lead the Carmichaels softball team to a 9-5 victory over West Greene in Section 2-A. Burns also walked one and struck out seven to earn the pitching win. Danielle McClellan had a three-run double in the third inning for the Mikes, who improved to 10-0, 14-1.
Bailey Bennington was two for four with a run scored for West Greene (5-5, 8-5) but suffered the lost after walking five and striking out 13.
• Seton-La Salle scored five runs in the fourth inning on two errors and two hit batters, as the Rebels downed Trinity, 6-5, in a non-section softball game in Brookline.
Taylor Mercurio had a double and two singles for Seton-La Salle, which improved to 8-0.
Brianna Thomas, Ashley Winklevoss and Makayla Watson drove in runs for Trinity (9-2). The Hillers scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but it turned out to be too little, too late.
• Morgan Gamble and Morgan Simkovic hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to power Jefferson-Morgan to an 8-3 victory over Albert Gallatin in a non-section softball game Monday. Gamble’s was a two-run shot that hit off the right fielder’s glove, and Simkovic, who added a double, hit one over the fence in right center. Maddie Ludrosky earned the pitching win for Jefferson-Morgan (6-7) by walking three and striking out 10.
• Linda Rush and Ally Bellaire had three hits apiece, Tara Fowler added a solo home run and the Canon-McMillan softball team topped Mt. Lebanon, 2-0, in Section 4-AAAA action. Alayna Astuto was the winning pitcher for the Big Macs (9-0, 10-1), striking out five and walking one. Kirsten Rush had an RBI single in the first inning.
