Marek D. Jacobs, 45, of Canonsburg, died Monday, January 8, 2017, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born April 6, 1972, in St. Louis, Mo., a son of Walter Rice of St. Louis and Adriane Jacobs Hawkins of Ofallon, Ill.

Mr. Jacobs was a 1990 graduate of Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis, attended University of Kansas and was a 2006 graduate of University of Missouri, where he received his bachelor of science in civil engineering.

He worked as an engineer for Pennsylvania American Water Company, where he was senior manager of operations and was formerly senior manager of field service and production with Missouri American Water Company.

Mr. Jacobs was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at the University of Kansas, was on the board of advisers at St. Charles YMCA and was a member of Missouri Chamber of Commerce, St. Peter’s Rotary Club and American Water Works Association.

He was involved with several fundraising events for American Cancer Society in Washington, and enjoyed biking, golfing, fishing, watching movies and was a music aficionado.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Daria Bell of Belleville, Ill., and Ja’Nay Hawkins of Edgewater, N.J.; six aunts and four uncles; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Additional visitation and services will be held at a time and date to be announced in Officer Funeral Home, 2114 Missouri Avenue, East St. Louis, IL 62205. Interment will be in Sunset Garden of Memory, Millstadt, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society, 331 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301.
